It is in combination with Pinot Noir for the wines of Châteaumeillant and Coteaux du Giennois that the Gamay is used in Center-Loire. Vinified in rosé, it produces fresh and aromatic wines. In traditional wine making for reds, by vatting, it offers a beautiful bright color, ranging from garnet red to dark ruby, dotted with violet reflections.
On the nose, it surprises with a beautiful palette of aromas composed of red and black fruits (blackberry, redcurrant, raspberry), which can go as far as animal notes and undergrowth. The wines are fresh, gouley, with a touch of acidity.
With a few years of guarding, these aromas evolve towards more pronounced aromas like prune and spices. The Gamay reveals fleshy wines, thick and vibrant in the mouth, with powerful tannins that soften with age.
