Our Grape Varieties
Sauvignon Blanc
Grown all over the world, Sauvignon Blanc accounts for 80.9% of the Centre-Loire vineyard. Particularly well-suited to the region’s varied soils and climates, here it finds its finest expressions, developing a rich and complex aromatic palette, always with that fresh, precise mineral edge.
Ambassador of the red wines of the Center-Loire, the Pinot Noir represents 16,4 % of the Center-Loire vineyard. The sole red grape of Sancerre, Menetou-Salon and Reuilly, it is blended with Gamay in Coteaux du Giennois and Châteaumeillant. The Pinot Noir offers a wide range of expressions and aromas, giving wines both elegance and delicacy.
Gamay represents 1,4 % of the Centre-Loire vineyard and is used in the production of rosés and reds from Châteaumeillant and Coteaux du Giennois blended with Pinot Noir. Its juicy grapes produce wines that are generous, refined, and aromatic.
Pinot Gris accounts for 0.8% of the Centre-Loire vineyard, found exclusively in the Reuilly and Châteaumeillant appellations. Used to make delicately coloured rosés, Pinot Gris produces particularly generous wines marked by freshness and indulgence.
The oldest grape variety cultivated in the Centre-Loire, Chasselas is planted on just 30 hectares in the Pouilly-sur-Loire appellation. Appreciated for its fruitiness, freshness, and delicacy, it can reveal surprisingly varied notes depending on the terroir.
An emblematic grape of Burgundy, Chardonnay is a white variety with worldwide renown. Its golden grapes produce great white wines with a wide range of aromas, including citrus, dried fruits, and brioche.
Originating from Burgundy and later planted in the Loire Valley vineyards, Melon de Bourgogne now thrives mainly in the Nantes region. In the Centre-Loire, it is used in the IGP Coteaux de Tannay.
